The Dawson River is a river located in central Queensland, Australia, flowing for approximately 295 kilometers from its source near Rolleston to its confluence with the Mackenzie River near the town of Theodore. The river passes through a range of landscapes including open grasslands, densely forested areas and steep gorges. It has significant cultural and archaeological importance for local Indigenous communities and is popular for recreational activities such as camping, fishing and kayaking. The Dawson River is also important for irrigation, with a number of weirs and dams constructed to regulate its flow and provide water for agriculture. Despite its importance, the Dawson River is under pressure from land use practices, including grazing and mining activities, and faces threats from climate change and invasive species.
